Alberta’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.9% in January 2012, unchanged from December 2011 and down 1.0 percentage point from the same month last year. This rate was the lowest among all the provinces in the country.
Alberta courts sent a strong message in 2011 that workplace health and safety must not be compromised. The penalty total of more than $3.4 million is the second highest ever, doubling the $1.7 million collected in 2010.
