Occupational Health and Safety Council (OHSC)
OHSC is an administrative body that performs an advisory function in accordance with the power and authority specified under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
The Council consists of nine members, including the chair, it has representation from employers, employees and the public.
Employment and Immigration provides administrative support to the Council.
Member recruitment
Members of the OHSC are recruited through open competition. Successful candidates have experience or knowledge in occupational health and safety and workplace incident prevention. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety legislation is an asset.
Member appointment
The Minister appoints members by Order in Council, and the Chair, by Ministerial Order, both for a term of one to three years. When the term expires, the members and Chair, can be reappointed. Remuneration is paid per Order in Council.
Member responsibilities
Advise the Minister on matters relating to the health and safety of Alberta workers. Hear appeals related to the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Present the OHS code to the Minister and carry out duties assigned by the Minister.
