Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP)
The Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) was developed by Alberta Employment and Immigration and community partners to help Albertans who would benefit from temporary employment during the spring and summer months – typically post-secondary students and high school students.
Community-based, not-for-profit organizations can apply for STEP funding.

Application
The deadline to submit applications was March 6, 2009. Applications received or postmarked on or before the deadline are now being assessed. Applicants will be notified of the results in April 2009.
Duration
STEP employees must be given full-time employment (30-40 hours per week), which may be funded for periods of continuous employment ranging from six weeks to four months. This year’s program runs from April 27 to August 28, 2009. Employees must be paid minimum wage. STEP provides a wage subsidy of $7.00 per hour. Note that Alberta’s minimum wage effective April 1, 2009 is $8.80.

Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ)
Canada Summer Jobs provides wage subsidies to help Canadian employers of not-for-profit, public sector, and smaller private sector organizations with 50 or fewer employees create career-related summer jobs for students between the ages of 15 and 30 at the start of employment.
