Alberta Youth Entrepreneurship Camp

  • Teaches entrepreneurship as a career alternative to youth between the ages of 13 and 15 at Eagles Nest Ranch in the Cypress Hills. Youth gain valuable entrepreneurial skills from experienced business professionals and participate in experiential recreational activities.
     
  • Thirteen Community Futures Development Corporations act as partners in the current initiative with four from each of the CFCD partners attending.  Each partner is committed to promoting the camp in their region as well as providing staff to assist in presenting business training. The camp also provides a “Counsellor In Training” component that provides additional training to nine 16-17 year olds who have previously attended the camp and return as assistants.

Solutions

  • Assists clients that have significant barriers to employment which may be physical, social or circumstantial. Up to six weeks of individual and classroom training focusing on life management skills and basic skills upgrading.  Individuals also have the opportunity to participate in one or more work experiences which may lad to employment. Participation in this program may also allow clients to access additional courses and training to increase their employability.

Building Employment Strategies Together (B.E.S.T.)

  • Service is designed to provide employment skills, job coaching and training to individuals with a mental illness so that they may return to the workforce as productive employees. The program assesses the individual’s skills, strengths and abilities, matches the individual with the appropriate employment/volunteer placement and supports the individual to ensure success. Individuals may expect increased self-reliance through participation in e employment and volunteerism and decreased financial dependence and utilization of programs and medical services.
