Youth Connections Success Stories

Susan* has a long term goal...

Susan came to a Youth Connections office stating that her long term goal was to be a Child Psychologist.  Susan's career interests stemmed from a work experience she did in high school with a grade one class that she really enjoyed.  Taking small steps towards her goal, Susan decided to pursue a job in Child Care for experience.  At this time there was an advertisement for a job at a day care centre in the YEDC office job bank.

Susan completed a resume workshop and submitted her resume to the day care. She had an interview and was told she could start the job but would need to obtain her level one in child care and first aid/CPR. Susan was able to obtain both of these pre-requisites through the YEDC. Susan worked at the day care for some time, then moved on to another day care centre where she is employed today.

When asked what an accomplishment is for her, she stated "having the children smile at me and knowing that it is because I am good at my job". Susan also gave some advice for others looking for work. "If there is a field of work that you are interested in, then go for it, even if it means working at jobs that you don't like. Don't give up."

Susan, you are doing a great job, and one day you will make a great Child Psychologist because of your dedication now. Keep up the good attitude and hard work!
