Alberta Labour Force Profiles

The Changing Profile of Alberta’s Labour Force

Alberta’s strong economic growth over the last ten years has had major impacts on the province’s labour force. Employers are indicating shortages in skilled workers. Low birthrates and an aging workforce have resulted in a shrinking pool of workers. Other government initiatives encourage immigration and migration to the province. This has dramatically impacted the composition of the labour force, creating new challenges for us all.

Governments, educators, employers and other key stakeholders must work together to find ways to develop and fully utilize the talents of all Albertans. This is particularly true for target groups who may face barriers to employment, such as youth, older workers, Aboriginals, persons with disabilities and immigrants. This series of profiles on target groups provides detailed information about their involvement in the Alberta labour force.
